Earthquake Alert (08/22/2008)
On August 22, at 1:26 pm local time, an earthquake shook central Uzbekistan. According to the Uzbek Institute for Seismology, the epicenter was 17 km southwest of Tashkent in Nazarbek and on a 12 level scale, it measured around 5 to 5.6.
We have received no reports of loss of life or serious injuries. However, there are reports of minor structural damages to homes and buildings. Today’s tremor is a reminder to all U.S. citizens residing and/or traveling in Uzbekistan that we are located in an earthquake-prone region of the world.
