Warden Message - Bukhara and Kagan (07/24/2008)

This supersedes the July 10, 2008 Warden Message.

On July 10, 2008, the U.S. Embassy reported explosions at an Uzbek military base in the town of Kagan approximately 12 km southeast from Bukhara. According to Uzbek police authorities, the explosions were a result of a fire at an ammunitions depot.

The U.S. Embassy recommends American citizens temporarily avoid travel to the town of Kagan. Individuals traveling to Bukhara by train should only use main routes into Bukhara from the Kagan train station.
