Georgia Special Election on June 19 (03/26/2007)
The following is a message distributed through the Consular Warden System of the American Embassy in Tashkent.
GEORGIA TO HOLD A SPECIAL ELECTION ON JUNE 19, 2007 FOR REPRESENTATIVE IN CONGRESS FROM THE 10TH DISTRICT
On Tuesday, June 19, 2007 there will be a special election in Georgia’s 10th Congressional District to fill the seat of Congressman Charlie Norwood. To determine your legal residence is in the 10th Congressional District, you can click on Communicating With Your Elected Officials, then "Who is my Representative?" at the Federal Voting Assistance Program (FVAP) website, http://www.fvap.gov/.
If no candidate receives a majority of the votes (50% plus 1) in this special election, a runoff election will be held on July 17, 2007.
REGISTERING TO VOTE AND REQUESTING A BALLOT:
All members of the U.S. Uniformed Services, their family members and citizens residing outside the U.S. who are Georgia residents from the 10th District should request a ballot for this special election by completing and submitting a Federal Post Card Application (FPCA), SF-76, as soon as possible, if you have not done so already in calendar year 2007. The online version of the FPCA is available from the FVAP website at www.fvap.gov/pubs/onlinefpca.html. Specific instructions for Georgia are available at: http://www.fvap.gov/pubs/vag/pdfvag/ga.pdf.
The Board of Registrars must receive applications for registration and request for absentee ballot not later than Monday, May 21, 2007. If you are already registered, the Board of Registrars must receive your absentee ballot request not later than Friday, June 15, 2007.
You may submit the completed FPCA by fax using the following toll-free fax numbers for the U.S. and Canada: 1-800-368-8683 or (703) 693-5527. At www.fvap.gov/services/faxing.html, there is a list of additional toll-free fax numbers from overseas countries for use by U.S. citizens.
RETURNING YOUR BALLOT:
The Ballot must be postmarked by the date of the election, June 19, 2007. The Board of Registrars must receive voted ballots no later than Friday, June 22, 2007.
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:
A State Write-in Absentee Ballot will be included with your ballot. If no candidate receives a majority of the votes in this special election, you will be able to use this State Write-in Absentee to vote in the runoff election which will be held on July 17, 2007. You should return the State Write-in Absentee to your local Board of Registrars and have it postmarked by the date of the runoff election, July 17, 2007. The Board of Registrars must receive voted ballots no later than Friday, July 20, 2007.
