Commanding General for the U.S. Army Central Command, Lieutenant General James Lovelace (Biography), visited Uzbekistan from September 23-24.  He met with Uzbekistan’s new Minister of Defense Kabul Berdieyev and other senior Uzbek officials to discuss a broad range of issues including regional security, Afghanistan, counter-narcotics efforts, and military-to-military cooperation.  While in Tashkent, Lieutenant General Lovelace observed the U.S. Army-sponsored Tactical Combat Casualty Care Course which provided life-saving, medical training for 27 Uzbek military personnel.  He also discussed continued U.S. technical assistance in clearing unexploded ordinance from Kagan.  This cooperation will help to render the area safe and reduce the potential for injuries.
