U.S. Congressman Eni Faleomavaega visited Uzbekistan (06/29/2009)

U.S. Congressman Eni Faleomavaega visited Uzbekistan from June 27 to 28. The purpose of Congressman Faleomavaega’s visit to Uzbekistan was to discuss ways to improve relations between the United States and Uzbekistan and to raise awareness in the U.S. Congress about the important role of Central Asia more generally.

This is the second visit to Uzbekistan for Congressman Faleomavaega, who had the opportunity to meet with Deputy Prime Minister Shaismatov and Foreign Minister Vladimir Norov.

Congressman Faleomavaega, of American Samoa, is the Chairman on the Foreign Affairs Subcommittee on Asia, the Pacific, and the Global Environment in the U.S. House of Representatives with oversight responsibility for a large number of countries in the Asian region, including those of Central Asia.

Congressman Faleomavaega is the first member of either chamber of the U.S. Congress to visit Uzbekistan in four years.
