On June 6, the U.S. Deputy Chief of Mission, Brad Hanson, presented ten radio isotope identification devices to Uzbek State Customs Committee Officials at the Higher Military Customs Institute.

This equipment, which was purchased through the U.S. Department of State’s Export Control and Related Border Security (EXBS) Program, will help Uzbekistan’s Customs officials to detect and identify radioactive substances people may seek to smuggle into or through Uzbekistan. EXBS will also provide training on how to use and maintain the devices. This U.S.-Uzbek collaboration serves our nations’ mutual interests in combating terrorism and the spread of items of proliferation concern.
