U.S. Presents Equipment to the Uzbek Forensic Laboratory (04/25/2008)
On April 24, Ambassador Norland visited the Main Forensic Laboratory of the Ministry of Health, where he formally presented state-of-the-art scientific instruments to a group of Uzbek forensic scientists.
The equipment donation is part of a broader laboratory improvement project funded by the U.S. Department of State’s Bureau of International Narcotics and Law Enforcement Affairs (INL) with implementation assistance from the U.S. Department of Justice International Criminal Investigation Training Assistance Program (ICITAP). A team of U.S. forensic experts conducted a series of trainings for their Uzbek counterparts to help them utilize the new microscopes, gas-chromotograph, and mass spectrometer, and they were highly impressed by the professionalism of the laboratory scientists. The laboratory regularly performs forensic analyses of criminal evidence that contribute to the development of a sound and fair justice system. The Embassy looks forward to further cooperation with the Government of Uzbekistan on this and other projects.
