General Petraeus Visits Uzbekistan (02/17/2009)
On February 16 and 17, General Petraeus visited Tashkent to listen to Uzbekistan’s perspective on key regional security issues and the best approaches to addressing these challenges, particularly Afghanistan. As the Commander of the United States Central Command, General Petraeus routinely travels to the countries in his area of responsibility in order to maintain the best understanding of issues from these nations' various perspectives. He met with the President of Uzbekistan Islam Karimov and senior Uzbek officials from the Ministries of Defense and Foreign Affairs. They discussed a broad range of topics, including the security and stability of Afghanistan.
