The Uzbek State University of World Languages Highlights Success in English Teaching (02/14/2008)

On February 14, the Institute for English Teacher Education (IELTE) hosted the U.S. Ambassador to Uzbekistan Richard Norland.

The IELTE is the only four-year pre-service English teacher training program in Central Asia that requires instructors to teach all subjects in English.  IELTE curriculum is based on English teacher preparation programs used by well-known universities around the world.

The Ambassador met with Mr. Norboy Ortiqov, Acting Rector of the Uzbek State University of World Languages, Mr. Abbos Iriskulov, Director of the IELTE, and other university personnel.  IELTE staff briefed the Ambassador on their programs and discussed areas for future collaboration with the U.S. Embassy.  During his meetings with the IELTE teaching staff and students, Ambassador Norland was impressed by the students’ knowledge of English and complimented the instructors on their accomplishments.
