Information Resource Center (IRC)
The Information Resource Center (IRC) is essentially an electronic library with an American studies reference collection. It receives requests and disseminates authoritative information about the United States to representatives of the Uzbek Government (Presidential Office, Parliament, Ministries), media, non-governmental organizations, educational institutions, and others with a professional interest in the United States. It also coordinates the American Corner Program in Uzbekistan and maintains good working relations with Uzbek libraries.
The IRC maintains subscriptions to electronic databases, has full Internet access and a compact reference book collection. The IRC reference book collection includes information on American history, government, law, business, management, economic trends, education, American Studies, and a bit on American culture and literature.
The Center emphasizes electronic information resources rather than books. The advantage of information in an electronic format is that searches for specific information can be made more quickly and easily. Several electronic databases, such as Lexis-Nexis, ProQuest Direct, Factiva, EBSCO, Leadership Directories, STAT-USA and other online databases along with the Internet provide quick access to vast scope of accurate and complete information on U.S. policies, legislation, social and other issues.
The IRC will readily answer your queries regarding U.S.-Uzbek relations, major treaties and agreements signed between the United States and Uzbekistan, U.S. policies in the region, as well as in the world. You can also get information about U.S. laws and how they are made, U.S. government reports and press releases, transcripts of speeches and statements made by U.S. officials, information about outstanding American figures, and the most accurate statistical data. The IRC electronic databases will give you access to current articles from virtually all U.S. publications, including the Washington Post, the Wall Street Journal, the New York Times, and the Los Angeles Times.
IRC services are rendered free of charge. Information requests are accepted via telephone, fax, e-mail, or in person (by appointment) during IRC office hours.
Training/demonstration sessions on the resources and services of the IRC can be arranged for groups upon request.
