Ambassador Richard Norland hosted the annual official Fourth of July Reception at the U.S. Embassy on July 3.  Hundreds of guests joined U.S. Embassy staff members to celebrate the 232nd anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence, including Senate Chairman Ilgizar Sobirov, Legislative Chamber of the Oliy Majlis Speaker Dilorom Tashmukhamedova, First Deputy Prime Minister Rustam Azimov, Foreign Minister ­­­­­­­­Vladimir Norov, Minister for Foreign Economic Relations Elyor Ganiev, Minister of Justice Ravshan Mukhitdinov, Health Minister Feruz Nazirov, and all five state advisors.

USAID Project on Assistance to Agriculture Launches in Uzbekistan (06/23/2008)

Representatives of the Ministry of Agriculture and Water Resources, the Ministry of Foreign Economic Relations, Foreign Investments and Trade of the Republic of Uzbekistan, “Uzulgurzhisavdoinvest” Association and Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Uzbekistan, and the U.S. Ambassador to Uzbekistan Richard Norland attended the ceremony. Representatives of other government and local authorities, donor organizations, business associations, agrifirms, farms, enterprises and private companies working in the area of fruits and vegetables production, processing and exports, as well as local service providers to fruits and vegetables sector also took part in the event. United States Helps Preserve Cultural Heritage in Khiva

Dr. Aloviddin Khamraev, Director of Institute of Zoology of the Academy of Sciences of Uzbekistan, points to the termite bait which has removed nearly all termite damage at the Ichan Kala in KhivaEverywhere there is wood there may be termites. Whereas, in the forests termites perform an important ecological role by consuming the dead wood, in urban areas they can cause lot of damage to houses and trees. In Khiva, inside the fortress Ichan Kala, there are 56 buildings of great historic importance and the place has been designated by UNESCO as a world heritage site. Read more...

A laboratory employee uses sophisticated computer-enhanced microscopes provided by the U.S. to simultaneously compare forensic evidence at the Main Forensic Laboratory in Tashkent, UzbekistanOn April 24, Ambassador Norland visited the Main Forensic Laboratory of the Ministry of Health, where he formally presented state-of-the-art scientific instruments to a group of Uzbek forensic scientists. Warden Messages

Warden Message - Bukhara and Kagan (07/24/2008)

On July 10, 2008, the U.S. Embassy reported explosions at an Uzbek military base in the town of Kagan approximately 12 km southeast from Bukhara.  According to Uzbek police authorities, the explosions were a result of a fire at an ammunitions depot.

This Travel Warning is being issued to remind U.S. citizens that the potential for a terrorist attack or localized civil disturbance still exists, despite the fact that there have been no violent incidents in Uzbekistan since May 2005.  The Department of State continues to urge Americans in Uzbekistan to exercise caution when traveling in the region.
