Small Grants Program
The purpose of the Small Grants Program is to award small grants for specific projects that support the development of democratic institutions in Uzbekistan. Grants will be awarded to non-governmental, non-profit organizations (NGOs) and media outlets, not individuals.
In Uzbekistan, the Small Grants Commission is interested in projects relating to:
- building civil society institutions
- fostering a strong and independent media
- supporting civic education
- promoting the rule of law
- defending human rights
- empowering women
- fostering economic development, and
- protecting the environment.
The Small Grants Commission will NOT consider proposals (1) requested by non-Uzbekistani organizations and individuals; (2) relating to partisan political activities, charitable activities, political fund-raising, commercial enterprises and humanitarian aid; (3) proposed by individuals not affiliated with an organization that can provide the long-term sustainability needed to complete the project, and (4) those that duplicate existing projects.
Proposals will be evaluated according to the nature of the project’s goals, the applicant’s clearly formulated plan to achieve those goals, the adequacy of the proposed budget, and the proposal’s targeted audience.
