In Kicking off the Ambassador’s Fund for Cultural Preservation (01/31/2007)

On January 31st the Embassy hosted an elegant reception to engage established cultural figures and emerging artists in Uzbekistan. Approximately 100 people attended, including representatives from museums and the art, music, and theater worlds. Ambassador Jon Purnell and Public Affairs Officer Deby Jones opened the reception by highlighting the importance of strengthening cultural ties between the U.S. and Uzbekistan.  The Ambassador told the guests about the Embassy’s cultural programming, including its International Visitor Leadership Program and other cultural exchange opportunities, as well as the Ambassador’s Fund for Cultural Preservation.

Ambassador Purnell stressed the efforts by U.S. Government to help countries to preserve culture heritage.  Later while guests conversed with colleagues and new acquaintances at the reception, talented musician Alexandr Vishnevsky provided background music by playing well-known American music on the piano.  On their way out of the reception, guests could take various handouts, such as information about and applications for The Ambassador’s Fund for Cultural Preservation, calendars, and Art in the Embassies booklets.
