U.S. Presents Equipment to the Uzbek Forensic Laboratory (04/25/2008)

A laboratory employee uses sophisticated computer-enhanced microscopes provided by the U.S. to simultaneously compare forensic evidence at the Main Forensic Laboratory in Tashkent, UzbekistanOn April 24, Ambassador Norland visited the Main Forensic Laboratory of the Ministry of Health, where he formally presented state-of-the-art scientific instruments to a group of Uzbek forensic scientists. On March 27 - April 1, 2008, Acting Deputy Secretary of State for South and Central Asian Affairs Pamela Spratlen conducted a useful visit to Uzbekistan.  She met with several Uzbek Government officials including the Speaker of Parliament Dilorom Tashmukhamedova, Minister of Foreign Affairs Vladimir Norov, Minister of Foreign Economic Relations Elyor Ganiev, Chairman of Religious Affairs Committee Ortiq Yusupov, and Secretary of the National Security Council Murod Ataev.

Embassy Works with Local Community to Beautify Seattle Peace Park (03/29/2008)

Just in a minute the first plum tree will be plantedTo celebrate the 35th anniversary of the Sister City relationship between Seattle and Tashkent, the U.S. Embassy organized a Clean-Up of the Seattle Peace Park in Tashkent on March 29. To help clean the park, U.S. Embassy staff gathered, along with more than 60 others, including alumni of USG-exchange programs, regular visitors to the Embassy’s Information Resource Center and students from a nearby lyceum. Local orphanage thanks U.S. Embassy for solar energy (03/26/2008)

Some 80 children from a local orphanage together with local officials in Chirchik expressed their gratitude to the U.S. Embassy for providing them with solar panels.  In 2007, the U.S. Embassy used funding for Environmental, Science, Technology and Health Programs to give $5,000 to the NGO Sharq Ayoli to purchase and install solar panels at Orphanage No. 14 in Chirchik, Tashkent Region.  The solar panels generate over 600 liters of hot water that is used by 87 children at the orphanage every day.

U.S. Firm General Motors Sets Up Joint Venture with Uzbek Partner (03/21/2008)

On March 20, General Motors and UzAvtoSanoat Joint Venture officially announced that it had started mass production of modernized model of Nexia-2. As reported, on Uzbekistan market all modernized Nexia cars will be sold under Chevrolet brand.
